The new name for the university formed by merging the seven government colleges in Dhaka has been finalized as ‘Dhaka Central University’. Representatives of the seven colleges have agreed to this name, according to the Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
He shared this information during a briefing on Sunday (March 16) at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.
Azad Majumder stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had been working on the establishment of the university for the past few months. After discussions with student representatives of the colleges, it was announced that the seven colleges would merge into one university. The representatives of the seven colleges agreed to this name after consulting various stakeholders of different universities. Additionally, 28 teams were formed with students from the seven colleges, and after meeting with the team leaders, the name was finalized.
He also mentioned that the outline of the proposed university had been prepared and sent to Dhaka University through the Ministry of Education. Once approved by the Dhaka University Syndicate, the interim administrative structure will be finalized.
The Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Advisor added that an interim administrator will be appointed to oversee the university’s operations, and this administrator will be one of the principals of the seven colleges. The UGC has already interviewed the seven principals, and one will b e selected to serve as the interim administrator. The selected principal's college will serve as the main office for the new university. Furthermore, a coordination desk will be established in each of the seven colleges, and the respective college principals will be responsible for this coordination.
